Abstract: More and more often corporations are finding that they are using open source software to achieve their business goals. Not understanding the culture that goes along with the development processes used by these open source projects can result in a clash that could result in missed deadlines or a failed project. This should be attended by anybody who is considering using open source in one of their projects. Either to help manage your direct involvement with the open source project or to understand the terminology and processes used by a supplier of packaged open source software.

Bio: Timothy “Tim” Witham is the CTO at the Open Source Development Labs, Inc. (OSDL) a world wide non-profit consortium dedicated to advancing Linux based in Portland, OR. Tim has held executive, manager and individual contributor positions within the computer industry over the last 27 years. His experience encompasses from large to small enterprises and ranging from IC to large scale integrated end user computer systems.
OSDL has been in existence since 2000 and has provided an interface between corporations and Linux open source developers.
Tim's industry experiences include stints as a product line architect for a computer manufacture, long range strategic planner for an major processor manufacture, performance engineer, hardware designer and OLTP application developer.
