Abstract - Coaching - The New Leadership Imperative
Overview
The days of command-and-control, plan driven technical leadership seem to be disappearing –rather quickly. Agility seems to be a driving factor, as is raw delivery speed, as is the fact that the
paradigm never worked all that well. Replacing this model is one driven by leaders and managers shifting towards a coaching model within self-directing teams.

This drastically changes the skills required of leaders and fundamentally changes the team landscape. Many are struggling with the questions like – What do I do now? Am I out
of a job? And, how/what do I need to adapt and change?

This presentation, taking some lessons from the agile methods, standard coaching models and some gratuitous sports coaching analogies, will explore the key changes required of leaders to improve their coaching abilities. It should prove valuable both within agile and non-agile teams and for any leader looking to become a better coach.

5 Things Attendees will Learn

1.    The 5 core practices of a good coach
2.    Attributes of successful Agile and mainstream coaches
3.    Why coaching is becoming the preeminent management style
4.    Why good coaching works inside and outside of agility
5.    Various methods and examples for successfully adapting your style
